What is On-Demand Computing?

On-demand computing, sometimes referred to as ASP Computing (Applications Services Provider), has become a popular model for delivering mission-critical applications.  With on-demand, the software and data reside on a large secure application server maintained by a third party.  The user simply accesses the functionality, as needed, from anywhere in the world via the Internet. This model greatly simplifies traditional I.T. operational challenges when compared to the older on-premise software model. Accordingly, on-demand computing solutions are quickly replacing the older model.

On-demand technology has become mainstream as evidenced by the growing number of solution providers who are delivering their latest applications using this Internet-based platform. This list includes Microsoft, IBM, Oracle, Hewlett-Packard, Computer Associates, Sun Microsystems, and Quickbooks.  Industry insiders predict that on-demand computing will become the most pervasive computing model within the next few years.

On-demand computing models typically feature subscription pricing (pay-as-you-go monthly) versus large, up-front license fees and hardware purchases that are required by older software applications providers.  Unlike older, on-premise software models, on-demand computing typically requires only a flat all-inclusive fee, which protects customers from hidden costs (such as maintenance fees, upgrade fees, support fees, etc) which can quickly add up to as much as 3-5 times the original license fee.

Brightree On-Demand Computing
