Hats off to Brenda Smith
If Brenda Smith weren’t such a dedicated 19-year employee of HEALTHCAREfirst, you’d undoubtedly find her as an even more permanent fixture at Disney World. The application specialist who works remotely from Greenville, South Carolina, has visited “the most magical place on earth” a whopping 20+ times and counting. In fact, she and her family spend Thanksgiving, Christmas, Spring Break and summer vacations at the storied theme parks.
“We admit it. We’re Disney fanatics, but it never gets old watching the joy on our daughter’s face,” she explains. “We go with friends and family as often as we can to just relax and get away from it all.”
It’s not surprising that the mother of two and grandmother to a three-year-old grandson finds comfort in the leisurely pace of Disney. For 10 years, she spent 42 out of 52 weeks on the road as a trainer for HEALTHCAREfirst. Even after her “miracle child” was born in 2005, she kept up the hectic pace for five more years before she took a management role to train the trainers.
“I love training, and my technical side of computer programming made me even stronger in the role,” she says. “I was able to marry my expertise developing code with my healthcare industry knowledge.”
Three years ago, Brenda was ready for a change and moved to the sales team at HEALTHCAREfirst as the team’s first and only application specialist. She supported five sales representatives, performing clinical and financial product demos for customers and prospects.
“Creating this role was beneficial because the first face the customer sees is someone well versed in what the product can do. I was also often pulled in to turn situations around – from getting bills out the door to helping clinicians be more effective in utilizing software.
”With the transition to Brightree, Brenda will join a team of five product specialists managed by Kerri Harpole.
“Brenda comes to us with a breadth of knowledge and expertise and will be a valuable resource as a product specialist here at Brightree,” says Kerri. “We’re excited to have her on our team!”
For Brenda, it’s exciting to learn about the new Brightree software and to provide an even stronger offering to the industry. “Change can be hard for some people, but I’m optimistic about the opportunities from the acquisition. HEALTHCAREfirst and Brightree are both focused on higher standards for our customers and on patient outcomes.”
And just like the magic the customer service experts at Disney World make, Brenda’s laser focus on making sure customers are successful is sure to be contagious. “I was a client at one time. I’ve been there. Listening, understanding, thinking outside the box is the silver bullet for our customers.”
