Technology keeps Transcend O&P on the rise

Back in 2000, Midwest Orthotic Services opened its doors in South Bend, Indiana. Since then, a lot has changed – including the company name – as a result of constant growth. Today, Transcend Orthotics & Prosthetics (O&P) operates with 200 employees in more than a dozen locations across Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Missouri, Ohio, Texas and Maryland. What hasn’t changed is the company’s simple belief: lives truly change when patients are put first.

To meet their mission, Transcend O&P chose Brightree as its HME provider in 2015 for the industry-leading, cloud-based software.

“We needed a system that was going to grow with us and that could provide a paperless option to reduce our daily workload and cut down on costs,” recalls Holly Schutts, Transcend O&P’s training coordinator and compliance officer. “We still had paper charts flying around, so we wanted a solution that could help us go completely paperless.”

Brightree’s system stood out for several reasons, states Schutts, including user-friendly systems for clinicians and administrative staff handling billing and collections; the ability to customize to support specific workflows, and the tracking and ad-hoc reporting features for AR.

Once they made their decision, Schutts says they’ve never looked back, going completely paperless and accelerating their processes. Not only that, they’re able to use cutting-edge technology to improve patient care, like using 3D scanners on patients rather than casting them thanks to the file storage available from Brightree.

Other implementation successes include:

  • With Brightree, Transcend O&P uses the digital chart to quickly see orders at a glance and assigns different users to the task list, which is extremely helpful to work through their high volume of orders.
  • Brightree Document Management allows the organization to not only store documents but to auto-complete authorization requests using the eFax and MyForms functionalities. Because they no longer need to print, response time to providers and payers is much improved.
  • And with Brightree Patient Collections, Transcend O&P has automated patient invoicing and reduced manual collection efforts with a portal that allows patients to pay online, resulting in increased collections.

    “Since working with Brightree, we’ve seen a dramatic decrease in our days of sales outstanding (DSO),” states Schutts. “In fact, in early 2018, we added Brightree Patient Collections to our strategy, and now find that our DSO is consistently at about 75% of our target.” The ability to streamline processes, gain efficiencies and improve the revenue cycle are the obvious wins, but Schutts points out that Brightree goes even further. “Brightree provides the adaptability to find what works best for your organization, and this is a vendor that is constantly updating and improving its products and providing responsive support.”
